happiness is . . .

. . . going to Downtown to have lunch with a friend, taking the metro there and getting some good reading time in, reading an excellent book that poses a dynamic rather than static view of God and how he relates to the world, going to the Farmer's Market with my friend and eating chicken/potato/cheese pupasas while on the grass, a street performer singing my favorite song from Once, homemade/artisan Mexican chocolate ice cream, and Joe serenading me on the phone while I'm taking the bus back home.  Thanks, God, for feeding my soul today.

agree?

Protests have intensified recently against China's hosting of the 2008 Summer Olympics.  Some people claim that the Olympics should not be a venue for such protests, as they're about sports and peace, but this article from slate.com (and myself) disagree.  What do you think?

the promise

Last week, Nguyen and I switched ipods for a few weeks as a fun way to access new music for free.  (And I def got the better deal-he has almost ALL his music on his 30 GB ipod & he has an amazing selection, while mine is the new 8 GB nano w/ only some of my music on it.  But he's getting his fair share of indie rock!)  I've listened to his 80s playlist the most.  Below are my fave songs.

Galore (the whole album) by The Cure
"Escapade" from Rhythm Nation 1814 by Janet Jackson
"Lucky Star" and "Like a Prayer" from The Immaculate Collection by Madonna
"Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" and "Rock With You" from Off the Wall by Michael Jackson
"Bizarre Love Triangle" from Brotherhood by New Order
"The Promise" from When In Rome by When In Rome

pan

(the bread, not the cooking apparatus)  I think I found my new thing to be infatuated with for the month-Panera Bread.  I'm a little slow in discovering it, but I fell in love today.  (My track record: I find something that I get extremely interested in and listen to constantly/read all the time/visit a lot/eat often, usually for a month or so.  Then  I'll find something new to be vested in.  And then I'll rediscover the original and appreciate it more but listen/read/visit/eat less often yet enjoy in moderation.  But this doesn't apply to people, especially boyfriends!  Anyways, I digress.)  I like that it's a fusion of Corner Bakery and Starbucks, 2 places I enjoy spending time at.  It was large and spacious, with a decent menu, yet the setting felt intimate enough to have a meeting and group prayer time in.  And there's free Wi-Fi, which always excites me.
While looking up the address for the Pasadena location, I discovered there's one nearby me in the Valley.  Plan on finding me there often.  (But I'm sure I'll rediscover the Daily Grind coffee house in a month or so.)  --The only downside is that their French Onion Soup disappointed me some.--
